Is AVATAR an Oscar Contender?
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 15 films vying for best visual effects at the Oscars and AVATAR, 2012, and Transformers will compete with smaller budget films like Where the Wild Things Are, District 9 and Coraline. The Academy will narrow the list to seven film in January and will eventually pick three films for Oscar nomination. At least a few reviewers are certain AVATAR can beat the Oscar curse of fantasy films and even win best picture.

I agree with both of u. Its really not a competition because from the time the commercial came and from the time I saw the movie in 3-D I knew that it could be nominated for a Oscar and also be the best movie of 2009.

I agree with three of you. Best visual movie of first decade of 2000s...

Of course it will win best visual effects! It's been nominated for nine categories! It and the Hurt Locker are the movies with the most nominations! I hope it wins a lot, especially best picture!
I just wish they nominated some of the actors!
